Police Surveillance to Use GPS Tracking–Gangsters under Scanning

gps tracking policePolice and gangsters have always been rather opposing sides.

When it comes to crime fighting and crime committing, the two groups are anything but friends.

Up until this current technological age, gangsters had street smarts that could often outwit the police.

Gangsters could work at night and never be seen neither arrested by the police.

Surveillance is changing this: gangsters are now subject to scanning when the police are unable to be in several places at once.

Why do police use GPS tracking with video surveillance?

Police uses GPS tracking with video surveillance to stay up-to-date with the traffic stop incidents, as well as crimes of any sort—robbery, fights, murder, and so on.

GPS, an acronym for Global Positioning System, is a capability placed in cell phones and other technological devices that locates any person or item on earth.

Police use it, in their case, to find the address of a murder, a traffic stop, a confrontation, fight, or domestic dispute.

Since policemen do not know every street, home or office building, restaurant, or contact number, GPS tracking contains the knowledge that policemen lack about a given geographic area.

What are the benefits of using GPS tracking with video surveillance?

One benefit of using both GPS and video surveillance is that a policeman can see live video footage unfold and gain a mental picture of the person in question—while also having a physical address for the person in question, or the address of a relative or friend that can take him or her to the person.

Another benefit of using GPS tracking with video surveillance is that, should the suspect intend to run from the scene of the crime or drive onto a highway that leads out of the state, a policeman can stay on the suspect’s trail and notify the authorities of another state to be on the lookout for the suspect.

Other benefits of using GPS tracking with video surveillance consist of the following:

  • Serves as training video footage for new police officers
  • Can be used as evidence in a court of law
  • Can help police officers in dangerous, criminal encounters

GPS tracking can work with video surveillance to train new police officers.

Video surveillance will help policemen see where they often make mistakes in their routine responses to incidents or disputes in the area.

In addition, the GPS tracking capability can help them see if they took a long or short route to arrive at a destination.

When a new police officer arrives at his first day of training, he or she may not be familiar with GPS capability, or know which streets are faster to get to the scene of the crime than others.

Learning how to use Global Positioning technology (not to mention the geographic area in which he or she will work) will take some adjustment.

Next, GPS tracking with video surveillance benefits policemen because it can serve as evidence in a court of law.

There has been much controversy surrounding the use of GPS tracking to maintain a check on certain criminal targets, but the use of GPS and video surveillance can lead to court convictions.

In 2005, police placed a GPS tracker on the Jeep of an Antoine Jones—which led them to a drug house that had massive amounts of cocaine and about $70,000 cash inside the vehicle.

Whether or not it was an infringement on the rights of Antoine Jones, GPS tracking did lead to the destruction of a cocaine ring, something that may have never happened without the use of GPS tracking.

By implementing GPS tracking into their police surveillance work, law enforcement is using every technological advancement available to capture criminals and return safety to our streets.

While we can sit and debate how GPS tracking violates the rights of any individual, these rights may not remain if law enforcement cannot use every means necessary.
